The Niskayuna High School pool will be closed longer than usual this summer
to accommodate routine maintenance and some necessary safety work on the pool's
movable bulkhead. It will be closed from July 19 to August 25, instead of the
typical four-week closure for regular maintenance.
An initial plan to acid wash the pool this summer is now scheduled for next summer. However, some reconstruction of the bulkhead is necessary this year to make sure it can continue to be safely used. The bulkhead is the movable wall that allows the pool to be split up for different functions and competitive events.
This summer's work requires the pool to drained, as will next year's acid wash. Together, these jobs will compromise the most significant work that has been done on the pool since it opened in 2003.
