Two dozen Niskayuna students entering grades five through nine had the
opportunity this summer to hone their performing skills and further their
appreciation for music in the two-week "Summer Sonata" program.
The program, held form July 15 through July 26, was designed for students who were already members of the band, choir, or orchestra program.
Students developed their musical aptitude and in a variety of settings, including large and small group instruction in classes and ensemble rehearsals. Teachers led daily "Music Appreciation" seminars that covered topics such as music history, improvisation, studio recording, and careers in music.
The "Summer Sonata" concluded with a culminating evening showcase for students' families and friends in the high school auditorium. That event was followed by a reception sponsored by Niskayuna Friends of Music.
The Music Department would like to thank the Friends of Music, who supported this wonderful opportunity for our students.
