Niskayuna Schools, N-CAP, and faith leaders announce January 6 forum on bullying

A Monday, January 6 forum on bullying will feature the award-winning documentary film "Bully," followed by a discussion facilitated by three local faith leaders.

The forum is open to all parents and students, and will be held at 7 p.m. at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave., Schenectady.

There is no religious component to the event. It is part of a series forums on topics that are important to children and families being presented this year through the partnership of the school district, Father Bob Longobucco, Rabbi Matt Cutler, Reverend Scott DeBlock, and the Niskayuna Community Action Program (N-CAP).

"Bully" is a 2011 documentary film about bullying in U.S. schools. Directed by Lee Hirsch, the film follows the lives of five students who face bullying on a daily basis. It captures a growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools, in communities and in society as a whole. For more information about the movie, please visit http://www.thebullyproject.com/.

Following the 98-minute documentary, Longobucco, Cutler, and DeBlock will facilitate a discussion with parents, students, community members, and educators.
