On Tuesday, February 10, the Board of Education brought its meeting to Craig
Elementary School and fourth grade students brought all of the learning they did
through this year's Iroquois project to the Board. The sharing was part of the
Students First presentations, in which students from the district's schools
share a project or an activity at Board meetings on a rotating schedule.
Craig students talked about learning about Native American artifacts and customs, a visit to the Brookside Museum, and the extensive research that they did throughout the unit. Following their formal presentation, they had a chance to show Board members the artifacts that they created. Craig's fourth grade teachers are Mrs. Gildea, Mr. Micieli, and Mrs. Brys.
This year, the Board of Education has scheduled some of its meetings at district schools as part of an effort to keep the focus on students and learning and to give community members a chance to come to a meeting closer to their neighborhood. The meetings scheduled for schools this year coincide with "Students First" presentations. Next up is Birchwood, on April 14.
