Dr. Cosimo Tangorra Jr. is on the job.
He took over as the district's superintendent of schools today, Tuesday, June 2. The former deputy state education commissioner said he is excited to get started, beginning with the number one priority of meeting as many people in the district and community as he can.
"I was fortunate to spend some time in the district throughout May, meeting people and learning about some of the major issues. But it really begins today," Dr. Tangorra said. "I want everyone to know how serious I am about engaging all stakeholders so that we keep moving forward and build on the progress that has been made this year."
He said that June is a good time to get started because of the number of events and celebrations in our schools - and he'll be at many of them.
"If you see me at an event in June, and chances are you will, please stop and say hello," Dr. Tangorra said. "I am looking forward to getting to know the district better, and that means meeting the teachers, parents, students, staff, and residents who make Niskayuna so special."
He has scheduled three "Listening and Learning Tour" stops open to all community members specifically to introduce himself, meet people, and hear views on district issues. These sessions are scheduled for:
More of these meetings will be announced for the summer and the fall.
Dr. Tangorra comes to Niskayuna with experience as a teacher, academic administrator, principal, and superintendent. Most recently he has been the New York State Education Department deputy commissioner for P-12 education.
The Board of Education unanimously appointed Dr. Tangorra superintendent of schools on April 14, following an extensive search process this year.
