Niskayuna High School senior Alexandra Betencourt-Perez recieved one of two
Chancellor McGovern Scholarships to be awarded this year at the June 16 meeting
of the Board of Regents. The scholarship, endowed by a contribution from former
Chancellor Joseph McGovern, provides $500 to a graduating high school senior who
is a son or daughter of employees of the State Education Department or the Board
The students must plan to attend a postsecondary education program in the fall. The award recognizes character and academic achievement.
The award was presented to Alexandra by Regent Beverly L. Ouderkirk, of the 4th Judicial District, which includes the Niskayuna Central School District.

Alexandra will attend Russell Sage College in the fall. This winter she attended the 2015 Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute at the State Capitol. She was recognized by legislators and SOMOS Inc. for her accomplishments.
