The Germans are coming! The Germans are coming!
On September 19, a group of 20 German students from the Freiherr-vom-Stein high school in Hamm, Germany will be arriving, along with their teachers, Gerhard (Gerd) Csoma and Carsten Schriefer. Every two years since 1998, our Niskayuna High School German Program has had the pleasure of hosting a group of exchange students and teachers from our partner school in Germany, and this year we are as excited as ever. Our German friends will be staying with us in Niskayuna until October 5, and first and foremost they will attend school and give presentations to our classes on German culture and institutions. They will also tour Albany and Schenectady, and see Williams College, Union College, the Hancock Shaker Village, and Dippikill in the Adirondacks. They are excited to have the chance to attend a home football game, the Homecoming Dance, and other school events while they are here.

More important than the activities and excursions, though, is the opportunity to make new friendships and have a true exchange of opinions and perspectives. This is an enriching experience for those who are directly involved, but can also help broaden horizons beyond the participants themselves. So if you have the chance, please take advantage of the opportunity to get to know our German friends, and please join the Niskayuna High School German Program in giving them a warm welcome.
