October 7, 2014

Districtwide Emergency Early Release Drill is Friday, October 10

All schools in the district will release students 15 minutes early on Friday, October 10, 2014 for the annual drill to practice emergency dismissal procedures. Please note the following dismissal times for that day:

Elementary - 1:55 p.m.
Middle School - 3:00 p.m.
High School - 2:25 p.m.

At each school's respective dismissal time, all students who are taking the bus on will board their regular bus. This does not affect transportation to daycare centers.

At the elementary level, Kid's Time programs will operate on Friday. Students who are participating in Kid's Time will leave the building at dismissal time with all other students, faculty, and staff, and will re-enter the building at a set time.

Students at the middle and high school level who normally walk home from school will be able to do so, as will students who drive home from high school.

All high school students remaining at the school for activities will proceed to the grass field area across from the pool entrance following dismissal, and wait until the building is re-opened following the drill.

Drills are not intended to scare children, but rather to be sure everyone in the building is aware of procedures in the event of an emergency. Teachers will inform students of the drill ahead of time and in an age-appropriate manner, particularly at the elementary school. There is nothing that the district takes more seriously than the safety of our students and staff, and preparedness is part of that effort.

Elementary principals have sent letters home with more specific information about the drill.

Parents who have any questions about the drill should contact the main office of their child's school.
