Board of Education hitting the road, schedules meetings at district schools for 2014-15

This year, the Board of Education has scheduled some of its meetings at district schools as part of an effort to keep the focus on students and learning and to give community members a chance to come to a meeting closer to their neighborhood.

The four meetings scheduled for schools this year coincide with "Students First" presentations, at which students and teachers highlight what they are working on in the classroom.

The first meeting at a school is Monday, October 20 at Hillside. On that evening, Hillside students will show Board members how they are using iPads to create projects that share new knowledge from units that connect learning in the library and their classrooms.

The additional meetings at schools are scheduled for:

  • November 18 at Iroquois Middle School, 7 p.m.
  • January 27 at Craig School, 6:30 p.m.
  • April 14 at Birchwood Elementary School, 6:30 p.m.

The Students First presentation schedule features every school in the district on an every-other-year rotation.

"Board members are looking forward to seeing our students and teachers in their schools, as well as welcoming parents and community members to our buildings," said Board President Patricia Lanotte. "It's important for us to stay connected to our schools and what's happening in classrooms. This approach to meetings is just one way we are working to do that."
