The school district is announcing that Jean Winkler will take on the new
position of K-12 English Language Arts director. Winkler, who was K-8 ELA
director from 2008 to 2014, was the principal at Rosendale for the last year.
Retired Glencliff Principal Fran Reinl will return to Niskayuna this summer as the interim principal at Rosendale.
The news was communicated late last week to Rosendale faculty and staff and in a letter to families from Winkler.
When Winkler was named the principal at Rosendale last spring, she embraced the opportunity to become part of the school community and to gain building leadership experience. She said that ultimately the opportunity to serve as the K-12 ELA director was one that she did not want to pass up.
"I had a wonderful year at Rosendale and will always treasure the relationships that I formed there," Winkler said. The new position presented a unique opportunity to do work that I am incredibly passionate about. It came along as the district is about to embark on multi-year curriculum-building project across all schools and grade levels. I am excited about what is ahead."
"Jean's experience and passion as an instructional leader will serve the district well in her new role," Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. said. "We are grateful for her student-focused service to Rosendale over this past year."
Winkler will officially begin as K-12 ELA director on August 1. With the school year approaching, she will work with Reinl as she transitions into Rosendale as the interim principal.
Reinl served as principal at Glencliff for 22 years prior to retiring in 2011. Her knowledge of the Niskayuna elementary school program, working relationship with many staff members, and student-centered approach made her an ideal choice to lead Rosendale on an interim basis, Dr. Tangorra said.
Having an interim allows the time necessary to conduct a collaborative and thorough search for the best possible candidate for the principal position at Rosendale.
