Van Antwerp students show their Heart and Sole at 5K run

After 10 weeks of training, six students from Van Antwerp Middle School will participate in the inaugural Girls on the Run Capital Region 5K celebration, 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch in Albany. The students are part of the Heart and Sole program for middle school girls. The program's goal is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.

Running buddies supported the Van Antwerp students during their training process and participated in a practice 5K run with them on Nov. 2. During the practice 5K, parents, classmates, Van Antwerp staff, and students from Union College cheered them on along the course. Two Van Antwerp teachers, Mrs. Krauss and Mr. Lebel also completed the 5K.

If you or your daughter is interested in participating in this program in the spring, please contact Mrs. Horner at chorner@niskyschools.org. If you would like to support the program, consider walking or running in the 5K on Nov. 21. To register, visit gotrcr.org.
