Science Lecture, "Rexford Bridge: Design and Build" set for April 11

The Niskayuna High School Science Department will host a science lecture from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, featuring two representatives of the Rexford Bridge project discussing the design and construction of the new span. This is a new date for the lecture, which was twice canceled this winter due to inclement weather.

Students, parents and community members are encouraged to attend this special event. It will be held in the High School's Little Theater.

Roger Laime, who worked on the design of the new bridge, and Tom Hoffman of the State Department of Transportation will discuss the design and build process. More information about each of them is below.

Roger W. Laime, P.E.

Roger received his B.S. from the University of Rhode Island and his M.B.A. from the SUNY at Albany. He is currently the Transportation Department Manager and Project Manager for Major Projects for AECOM's Albany office including Design Build projects in West Virginia, Vermont and New York. Roger has over 33 years of experience as a structural engineer and bridge design engineer. He has worked on a wide variety of design build projects, including a design project for a hydroelectric powerhouse rehabilitation in Fayette County, West Virginia, Construction Inspection for the Zone 1-Accelerated Bridge project in Regions 1 & 7 and the design for the Rexford Bridge replacement currently under construction in Saratoga and Schenectady Counties.

Tom Hoffman, P.E.
Tom Hoffman received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1991 with a focus in structural engineering. He joined NYSDOT Region One Bridge Design in 1992, and has worked most of his DOT career in the Regional Structures Office. Tom has designed and managed a variety of steel and prestressed concrete bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects. From 2004-2014, Tom served as the Region One Structures Engineer, overseeing the bridge program in the 8 county Albany area. In 2013, Tom began supervising construction projects, and is currently in Region One Construction serving as a Project Manager for Design Build projects, including the Rexford Bridge Replacement. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York.
