Board of Education member Patricia Lanotte submits resignation

special election to be held to fill seat

Board of Education member Patricia Lanotte has submitted her resignation from the Board for personal reasons, which will result in a special election for the open seat.

"It has been my privilege to serve as a member of the Board, and I wish the District continued success as it moves forward with a strategic plan that will focus on all students," Lanotte wrote in her resignation letter, which was effective July 15.

First elected to the Board in 2013, Lanotte was instrumental in ensuring a strong focus on students, fiscal accountability, and long-range planning during her time on the Board.

She served as president of the Board during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years and as chair of the Board's Audit Committee. She helped guide the development of the district's strategic plan, which calls for a focus on curriculum and programs, school environment and culture, and partnerships.

Under New York State Education Law, when there is a vacancy on the school board, the board’s options include appointing someone to the position or holding a special election within 90 days.

The Board is expected to set a special election as members believe that is the most transparent and democratic way to have a full, voter-elected Board as soon as practical.

The special election will be held by mid-October. The exact date and more information about the nominating process will be established and publicized in the near future.

The Board of Education and district administration would like to thank Mrs. Lanotte for her service and dedication to the community and our students as a Board member.
