As the school year opened, facilities improvements that took
place over the summer in the district were substantially
finished, resulting in a new roof at Van Antwerp Middle School,
a functioning geothermal system at Niskayuna High School and new
roof structure supports at the bus garage.
The Dexter Street parking areas and entrance to the District Offices have reopened. All visitors to the District Office should resume using this side of Van Antwerp Middle School.
Outstanding finish work on the Van Antwerp roof will take place during the afterschool hours early this fall.
This was the first of two summers that work will take place in the district as part of the $5.6 million capital project voters approved last December.
Next summer, roofing projects will take place at Birchwood and Craig and health and safety work will take place at schools across the district. The projects vary by school, and include new electrical panels, HVAC controls, masonry restoration, and new water heaters.
The district is working with its architect and construction manager to secure State Education Department approval for next summer’s work and bid the jobs this winter.
More information about how next summer’s facilities projects will affect building access will be shared with our community this year.
While not part of the capital project, the complete system flush of the high school’s geothermal system was finished this summer. Preliminary indications are that this project was successful and the system will operate in the effective and efficient manner intended.
