BOE elects new leadership, welcomes new members

The Niskayuna Central School District Board of Education elected two members to leadership positions at their organizational meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Elisabeth “Libbie” Coccocia was elected by board members as President and Jessica LaFex was elected Vice-President. 

Ms. Coccocia previously served as Vice-President. She was first elected to the board in May 2022 and will serve until June 2025.

Ms. LaFex is serving her first term on the board. She was elected in May 2023 and her term continues until June 2026.

Both leadership roles are one-year terms.

In addition, newly elected board members Ehasuyi Gomes and Dr. Howard Schlossger were welcomed to the board.

Ehasuyi Gomes was elected to a first term on the board in May 2024. She works as a Public Health professional and has lived in Niskayuna since 2015. She has four children who attend Niskayuna schools.  Gomes serves as current co-treasurer of the Glencliff PTO as well as the Art and Culture Coordinator for Glencliff. 

Dr. Howard Schlossberg, who was reelected to a fourth term in May,  was first elected to the board in 2015. He is an oncologist at New York Oncology Hematology. Howard has lived in Niskayuna with his wife and two daughters since 2005. He is a member of the Niskayuna High School PTO and has served on other organizational committees in his nine years as a board member.

The board also welcomed two new student representatives: Hannah Ackerman and Arjun Rangarajan, both grade 11. They will join Noah Martinez, grade 12, who will fulfill the second year of his two-year term this year.
