The Niskayuna school nurse team would like to remind you to take precautions to prevent the spread of viruses and to help keep our school community healthy. As COVID-19 continues to circulate and cases of other respiratory viruses like flu and RSV are increasing statewide, the most important thing you can do is to stay home when sick or experiencing symptoms.
According to the Department of Health, the number of confirmed flu cases has tripled over the past several weeks. While respiratory viruses like the flu are often manageable, they can have serious outcomes, especially for children.
Additional precautions we encourage you to take include:
- Stay up to date on vaccines, including flu, in consultation with your physician.
- Wash your hands often with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds.
- Sneeze or cough into your elbow, not into your hands.
The health and safety of our students, staff and families are our top priority and we appreciate your attention to this issue.
