Committee Charge: The Niskayuna Central School District Board of Education Policy Committee is charged with overseeing the development, adoption, implementation, and periodic review of board-
level policies.
Committee Leadership: The chair of the committee shall be a standing Board member, nominated by the committee at the beginning of each year, and approved by the Board of Education.
Membership: Each year, the Board of Education shall appoint (up to) 3 individual Board members to serve on the Policy Committee. This will take place at the Organizational Meeting, or as soon after as possible. The term of appointment shall be one academic year (July 1 – June 30). The committee shall be comprised of (at minimum):
- Up to three (3) Board of Education members
- Superintendent of Schools (or designee)
- Chief Equity Coordinator
- District Clerk
Other individuals with program-area expertise shall be invited to meet with the Policy Committee as needed to aid the committee in their work. The Board’s attorney shall be consulted as necessary for legal advice on the development, revision and implementation of board-level policy.
Meeting Schedule: The Policy Committee shall establish the meeting schedule at the beginning of each year. Meetings shall take place a minimum of five (5) times per year, or as often as monthly.
Reports to the Board of Education: The Committee Chair will report on the activities of the committee to the Board of Education as a whole on a regular basis. A meeting agenda shall be created at least three days in advance of a scheduled meeting. The agendas and any meeting notes/approved minutes of each meeting shall be posted in the same manner as other board documents to the district’s website.
