BOE appoints Rakoczy, Moskov to new leadership positions

On Thursday, August 22, the Niskayuna Central School District Board of Education met to approve several administrative appointments and assignments in advance of the new school year.

We are pleased to announce that Luke Rakoczy, a veteran school leader who has served as our principal at Van Antwerp since 2005, will assume the principalship at Rosendale.

“I think the Rosendale community is going to find me a supportive, easy person to work with that really just wants to listen and learn and do the best work I can for students,” Rakoczy said. “I’m looking forward to a new opportunity and a chance to learn and to join the faculty and staff at Rosendale.”

Mr. Rakoczy (pictured left) brings a wealth of experience to this new role, along with a strong student-centered style of leadership. We are confident that his deep understanding of and commitment to our greater Niskayuna community will serve the Rosendale school community well. He began working in his new role on Friday, August 23.

We also are pleased to announce that John Moskov, a Niskayuna alumnus and longtime Niskayuna teacher and leader, has been appointed as Van Antwerp’s new principal.

“Being, you know, born and bred Niskayuna myself, I’m still very close to the community and still very involved in the community,” Moskov said. “I’m passionate about leading through service. I’m passionate about meeting families, students and teachers needs and all of those groups will always come first before my needs.”

Mr. Moskov (pictured right) brings a strong background in instructional practice, social-emotional learning and a deep understanding of and commitment to Niskayuna schools, students and families. He began his new role effective Friday, August 23.

“I am so grateful that both Mr. Rakoczy and Mr. Moskov are embracing these new opportunities to lead at Niskayuna,” said Superintendent Carl Mummenthey. “Rosendale and Van Antwerp will have seasoned leaders at the helm and ready on Day 1 of the new school year.”

The district’s leadership team will be evaluating Mr. Moskov’s former position (Director of Counseling and Athletic Programming) and following any adjustments, a full and comprehensive search for his successor will be launched. In the interim, others on the district’s leadership team will assume key roles and duties.
