Do you or does someone you know have a child that will turn five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2025? The Niskayuna Central School District kindergarten registration period for students entering kindergarten in the fall of 2025 will begin on Monday, Jan. 27, and continue through Friday, Feb. 14. Children who will turn five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2025, are eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2025.
If you have a child entering kindergarten and have not already contacted District Registrar Dana Mazzone, please complete our Kindergarten Eligibility Form. You will be sent a registration packet in the mail. If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten in the 2025-26 school year and have not received a packet by Jan. 27, 2025 please email Ms. Mazzone at dmazzone@niskyschools.org.
Please return completed registration packets by Feb. 14.
Once you have completed all steps outlined in the packet, please submit your paperwork in one of the following ways:
- Scan and send all documents as PDF files attached to an email to dmazzone@niskyschools.org
- Drop them off in the vestibule of the District Office which is located at 1430 Balltown Road and is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. There is a locked mailbox just inside the door that you can deposit your paperwork in. This mailbox is checked regularly.
- United States Postal Mail: If you opt to send your paperwork in via USPS, please take it to the Post Office to make sure the proper postage is affixed and mail to 1430 Balltown Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309, Attn: Office of the Registrar.
Once materials have been received, registration packets will be reviewed and you will be notified via email once your paperwork has been processed. Please understand that due to the high volume, there may be a delay in your receipt of a confirmation email. However, please be assured that the kindergarten registrations are diligently reviewed and processed, and you will receive notification as soon as your child’s registration is complete, or you will be notified if the registration is missing pertinent information.
Flex Zone Information
- The district utilizes six flexible attendance zones (“flex zones”) to balance class sizes at the elementary level.
- Flex zones have been implemented with each entering kindergarten class since 2015.
- Students who reside in these areas may be assigned to one of two or more schools for the purposes of balancing class sizes.
- Families who live in flex zones will be provided with a form that enables them to state a school preference, which will be considered, whenever feasible. However, the district must also prioritize balancing kindergarten class sizes across each school and may not be able to accommodate all preferences. If you are not sure if you live in a flex zone, please consult the attendance zone map.
Kindergarten assignments for students who live in flex zones will be made at the end of July. Notification of official school assignments will be sent out to families shortly thereafter via postal mail.
