Niskayuna High School alumni Dominic Fallacaro was nominated for a 2023 Tony Award for Best Orchestration for the musical “& Juliet.” The Broadway jukebox musical tells the story of Juliet if she survived at the conclusion of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Fallacaro, class of 2004, is a Grammy Award-winning producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. In 2015, he won the Grammy Award for producing the “Best Children’s Album.” He also received an Emmy nomination for his composition in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Fallacaro was inducted into the high school Hall of Fame in 2022.
Richard Gatta, class of 2005, is in the original Broadway company performing the musical, “New York, New York,” which is nominated for Best Musical among other Tony nominations this year. Richard also previously served as choreography supervisor for the Tony-nominated Broadway musical “Bright Star.”
“It’s incredible to have two students who were attending NHS at the same time be involved in Tony-nominated musicals in the same season,” said Eric Hughes, director of music education K-12. “We are so proud of our students past and present, and are grateful to the music faculty for creating programs that lead to this kind of professional success.”
