Niskayuna High School junior Eujeong Choi will be on stage at Proctors on March 11 as a guest performer with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra.
The Symphony will be performing “The Age of Nationalism (1918-1959)” on the MainStage at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 11. Eujeong, who won the Empire State Youth Orchestra 2022 Concerto Competition, will be the featured soloist in Shostakovich’s “Concerto for Violoncello in Eb Major.”
“Playing this piece has been a dream of mine since I was in seventh grade,” Eujeong said. “I’ve been working on practicing it for around half a year.”
She will also perform in Copland’s “John Henry” and Sibelius’ “Symphony No. 5” in Eb Major.
Brian Mooney, orchestra director at Niskayuna High School, has seen Eujeong’s study and practice pay off in the three year’s he’s worked with her. “She can play something that a lot of graduate students, even after studying at a high level, could not do,” he said. “She’s a special talent.”
This will be Eujeong’s first time performing with a professional orchestra and she’s excited about the opportunity. “I hope a lot of people come to watch,” she said.
