A committee studying the topic of homework during the 2017-18 school year reviewed existing research, held focus groups with Niskayuna parents and faculty, and conducted a survey. The committee found that there are varied perspectives on homework within the community. This included a range of opinions on the importance of homework and the types of homework that are most valuable.
The committee recommended an effort to update the existing elementary homework guidelines and better communicate them within the district.
As of early October 2018, Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Lauren Gemmill are revising the existing homework guidelines and will be sharing them with the Board of Education, faculty, and parents.
