Over the years, Niskayuna has endured many heartbreaking, untimely losses of its students, teachers and staff, leaving a profound impact on our entire community. To honor the memories of high school students that have been lost, Niskayuna High School recently unveiled the Tree of Life sculpture in its Remembrance Garden.
The Tree of Life will serve as a testament to those lost, symbolizing hope and healing. The sculpture, crafted from stainless steel, titanium, copper and bronze, reflects the strength and resilience of our school community during moments of tragedy and loss. Its branches symbolize growth and connection, and honors the names of the deceased, ensuring they are never forgotten.
The Remembrance Garden, where the Tree of Life is located, also includes two engraved metal plaques. One includes student names and the second lists the names of faculty members who have passed away while actively employed at the high school.
After careful research into memorial practices, the high school community decided to create a standardized approach to honor the legacies of those who have passed. Their vision includes a dedicated space to celebrate the lives of their beloved educators and students, as well as plantings and memorial scholarships.
The Tree of Life project, completed this past June, was made possible through the support of the Niskayuna Community Foundation, as well as many other donors.
