Tree of Life memorial unveiled at NHS

group of people standing with iron tree sculptureOver the years, Niskayuna has endured many heartbreaking, untimely losses of its students, teachers and staff, leaving a profound impact on our entire community. To honor their memories, the Niskayuna High School recently unveiled the Tree of Life sculpture in its Memory Garden Courtyard.

The Tree of Life will serve as a testament to those lost, symbolizing hope and healing. The sculpture, crafted from stainless steel, titanium, copper and bronze, reflects the strength and resilience of our school community during moments of tragedy and loss. Its branches symbolize growth and connection, and honors the names of the deceased, ensuring they are never forgotten.

After careful research into memorial practices, the school community decided to create a standardized approach to honor the legacies of those who have passed. Their vision includes a dedicated space to celebrate the lives of their beloved educators and students, as well as plantings and memorial scholarships.

The Tree of Life project, completed this past June, was made possible through the support of the Niskayuna Community Foundation and the Class of 2012.
