The YMCA’s Black and Latino Achievers Program is designed to support students in grades 9-12 (for the 2024-25 school year) in reaching their full potential.
By recognizing the obstacles that may be faced by Black and Latino youth, the program aims to provide them with the resources, mentorship and opportunities needed to achieve personal and academic success.
Key components of the Black and Latino Achievers program include:
- Academic Support: Tutoring, study skills workshops, and access to educational resources to help participants excel in school and pursue higher education opportunities.
- Mentorship: Mentors serve as role models and advocates, offering valuable insights and advice to help participants overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
- Leadership Development: Through workshops, seminars, and hands-on experiences, participants learn important leadership qualities such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Cultural Enrichment: Participants engage in cultural events, workshops, and activities that promote cultural pride and awareness.
- College and Career Readiness: The program provides college and career readiness support, including assistance with college applications, financial aid and career exploration, guidance on selecting colleges and majors that align with their interests and goals and assistance with preparing for standardized tests and developing professional skills.
- Community and Civic Engagement: By actively participating in Youth & Government and community service initiatives, participants develop a sense of social responsibility and learn the importance of making a positive impact on the world around them.
The cost of the program is $250. Financial assistance through the YMCA is available.
